Dave divides his year into two seasons. The building season usually runs from late April to as late as November, depending on the weather.  During a building season, Dave may construct just one water feature commission, or he may tackle a series of smaller commissions throughout the season. There is often a considerable waiting list.

During the off season, Dave writes articles and gives talks based on his experiences and what he has learned over the course of his career and life. Both of these businesses, speaking and construction, have grown entirely by word of mouth.
